TESTED: Titleist Pro V1 vs Mail Order Golf Balls. What happened: On paper at least for driving distance there was a stand-out performer and that’s the Titleist Pro V1x, which was seven yards longer through the air than the rest of the balls. That’s a 3% gain in carry distance.
TaylorMade Tour Response vs. Titleist Pro V1 – Performance In our test, the Titleist Pro V1 was one yard longer off the tee (a difference of 0.4%) than the TaylorMade Tour Response. With a 7-iron, the TaylorMade Tour Response was 13 yards (8.8%) longer than the Titleist Pro V1, which means you more than gain back any loss from the driver.
ProV1x will spin a ton on mid irons, TP5X will spin much much less. Both balls perform/spin well around the green, but there is an absolute edge to the ProV1x as far as stop and pop. Both are fairly low spin in the long game, but the TP5x spins less off driver IMO.

ProV1X is a 4 layer ball, feels slightly firmer, Launches higher, spins more. Pro V1 is 3 piece, softer, lower launch/spin Reply reply [deleted] • [removed]

Most balls in that category as well as some of the "distance" balls like AVX are engineered for a lower flight. Sounds like your swing and equipment probably launch and spin the ball a little on the low side for max carry. Higher flight dimples on the Pro V1x compensates for that.

Pro V1x - Firmer feel. Spins high around the green (almost identical to Pro V1), spins lower with longer shots. This low spin with the longer shots is very attractive to high spin, high speed players. This lower spin will make mis-hits and errant shots more manageable than with a higher spinning golf ball like Pro V1.
