Beneficial is up to the operator. Something manual over Automatic is better imo. For example, there's a hill in Germany that, whenever I go up it in Automatic and have to stop for whatever reason, the truck shifts up when it should hold the gear. As soon as it shifts, the truck bogs down and it's no good.
Since the release of American Truck Simulator, SCS has added the ability to create automatic transmissions starting with the Allison 6-speed. Compared to [automated] manual transmissions, these automatics utilize a torque converter in place of a clutch. Now with the 1.24 update, torque converter simulation has been added.
Just like rl trucks you need bind a key (switch) for low/high gear change. First you use low 1-6, then press that button and you use high 1-6 (it will be 7-12). In game options - controller- activate your shifter then scroll down to shifter selection and use scs made 12 gear or download new pattern. ycLn.
